Comments: This was my favorite game on sega master system until i played its sequel, and then phantasy star after that. everything about it fills me with nostalgia. and the music is possibly my favorite on the sega. Very hard game though, i wish they'd take that timer out of the game, i think thatd make it quite fair. I hate to say that this game is a blueprint to its superior sequel, but it still ranks in my top 5 sms games. Since 92 ive yet to pass that last level, and i refuse to cheat via emulators or pausing cheat, so i may be trying for a loong time :p

Comments: this game literally chokes me up when i think about it. i loved this game, the graphics and sound and secret elements, it was perfect for its time. but that isn't why i get so emotional about it. My Father (who passed away 10 years ago) would play this game for hours in my room, he would crack open a brew and get busy, i would fall asleep in bed with him playing this, what a way to get put to sleep. this was my father's favorite master system game and for that reason it will always be one of mine as well. plus it doens't hurt that it is a totally solid awesome game.

Follow this adventure looking for secret doors throughout the game. You also need to look for secret door to upgrade your swords anyways. If you complete secret mission, the last person (on last stage) will offer either a bell or a ruby. The bell will "help" you through the maze. Write down the way. You probably wont beat the end boss coz you have to beat him twice, and you usually get farked up trying to kill him the first time. Now play the game again and get the ruby from the last person. Use your map to get through the maze. The ruby will kill the boss in one hit the first time. Also, throughout the game, buy thunderflash when you can, and be smart about what amaour,sheild,shoes you buy. There some items you can skip on the way to legendary stuff to save money. Thunderflashes are the only thing that will hurt the end boss, so the rest are a waste. I am yet to try the pause cheat listed below, so that will make life alot easier. Of course it is cheating so it wont fulfill your sole. I played this game with a mate and he had NEVER heard of the secret missions. No wonder he could never clocked the game. UNBELIEVABLE There is probably a walk through on the net. I am current looking for one for the last level as well and stumbled across this forum. Cant be bothered going through the bell exercise. once in a lifetime is eneough!

Comments: I beat this game when I was a kid. It was frustrating to have to start over every time you died. Those dang blocks you had to climb on the way to the Mecha Dragon were pure hell. I remember a code that may help out some of you guys. PUSH PAUSE ON THE CONSOLE ABOUT 100 TIMES. YOU WILL BE AWARDED AROUND 75 GOLD COINS. YOU CAN DO THIS AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT. IT SURE MAKES IT EASIER TO BUY ALL OF THE THINGS YOU WANT IN THE GAME. I may be a little off on the numbers, but this really works. Does anyone remember the genesis version of this game? It was essentially the same game, with the exception of an extra boss at the end that was hard as hell to beat. I loved these games. I miss them.

Comments: I grew up with the Kidd, but in retrospect there is no denying that WONDER BOY IN MONSTER LAND and WONDER BOY III dominate Sega's mascot in every possible way. They make Mario look shallow too, with a great RPG-like monetary leveling up system, a decent story and fabulous animation. Customizing your character changes the game drastically, making strategy key as you try to upgrade his shield, armor, shoes, sword and magic. Jumps get a bit higher, attacks stronger and defense mightier, and depending on your choices your approach to each level will be different. Add in tons of little secrets peppered in every level, and you'll never just be trying to get from left to right, you'll be actively scouring every little part of the frame. It's addicting how much turning our mascot into a capitalist adds to the game. All the sprites look beautiful and are all highly animated (you cut a ghost and a flesh wound appears, cut him again and he's a bag of bones). Aside from the last few levels, it's pretty linear to follow too, not nearly as labyrinthine as the at times frustrating WONDER BOY III. That said, the game is way too hard with only one life and no continues. Not ALEX KIDD IN HIGH-TECH WORLD hard, but it can get really cumbersome having to replay the entire game after every death. It may get frustrating, but it's always a marvel, one of the greatest 8-bit games of all time. It ditches the fun but fleeting gameplay mechanics of the original WONDER BOY, instead building on the foundations laid by ALEX KIDD IN MIRACLE WORLD. What Sega made was a masterpiece, the Mario killer that the mainstream never got the chance to play. The fact they could do so much here with 8-bit proves that Sega earned the right to the WONDER of the title. It's awesome.

Zool is another good choice to stay away from, though Bank Panic is good enough to hold one's attention for a couple of minutes. It does suck to be sure, but playing it will do no lasting damage, quite unlike the aforementioned Montezuma's Revenge.

Comments: The reason he changed from a caveman to a knight was because West One bought the Wonderboy name off of the original developer(dont remember who) shortly after the original Wonderboy was released. West One busted this game out and put the newly acquired Wonderboy name on it, and then sequels kept pumping out from there. In Japan this game is just called Monsterland and Wonder Boy III is called Monsterland 2, the Wonderboy name is only used in the US. There are also 3 Genesis Wonderboy games, Wonderboy III Dragon's Lair(released in Japan only, is a lot like the original Wonderboy, not to be confused with Wonderboy III for SMS, that is just its USA name), Wonderboy in Monster World aka Monsterland 3, and Monsterworld 4, only released in Japan, where the character is actually some arab blonde chick, so if this one was ever in English I guess it would be called Wonderbitch or something. The naming of the games is all fucked up between English and Japanese naming.

Comments: I absolutely love arcade games that think they're RPGs, and if I had to choose between the big three (this one, Cadash and Tower of Druaga), I would definately go with Wonderboy all the way. Piffling criticisms can be made of the fact that you need to be conversant with a lot of the game's secret rooms to stand a decent chance (and that it's not as good as the Arcade or PCE versions), but when a game's this adorable, who the hell cares? And most importantly of all, it's hard as nails but it IS possible on one credit.

I got the Bell cause the castle is a extremely difficult maze and one wrong step and you are back to the beginning. Plus if you make more than one wrong turn time will catch up to you and your life will disappear. Dedication, that is what this game takes. I remember I went to Gemco with my birthday money to buy Shinobi. They were sold out & not to many plces sold SMS games. I really wanted a game for my birthday and i couldn't wait next week for Shinobi!!! So I went on a whim and bought "Wonder Boy in Monster Land".....one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life!(review mags weren't popular and the internet wasn't invented yet) No disrespect to Shinobi ofcourse. Comments: just played this game again, almost christmas in the year 2001. the last time i played it was about 7 years ago. after playing games like zelda 64, and goldeneye, both GREAT games, i thought it would be a laugh to go back to playing this game on what was actually my christmas present in about 1990. it compares well to both zelda and goldeneye, and i must say, overall, its my favourite of the three. zleda 64 is more challenging, obviously better looking, but wonder boy in monster land will always be my special favourite. i finished the game on my second attempt today! it was as satisfying as the first! 15/10

Comments: One of the best games on sms. A superb platform adventure that never gets boring. The only downfall being that it is not compatible with Mega Drive controllers (even through the Master/Mega converter.) Must have.
