R-Type

Comments:
R-Type on the Sega Master System is a simple personification of 8-bit side-scrolling, enemy-blasting, power-up collecting glory.
The Graphics are pretty phenominal considering the limitations of the Master System, and the type of game R-Type is. Yes the ol' SMS can hold it's own with this one, throwing as as much onto the screen as it can; with mild flicker and slowdown as a result. Still, the enemies look great and the overall level design is awesome. The Bosses are huge and come with some pretty nifty animations. Your ship is also very well animated and is easily identifiable in the heat of battle. Moral of the story, Kickass!
The Music and Sound is great! When it comes to the audio department, most people thiink the SMS is inferior, but that's bullshit. The Music is very close to the arcade version, as are the sound effects. Well. As close as you can get from a T.I. SN76489 chip, but still very reasonable.
The Controls are spot on. Ducking and weaving is a breeze, shooting down alien scum is no problem, and the overall responsiveness is key.
And the Gameplay... is just as you expect it to be. R-Type.
In conclusion, If you haven't played R-Type yet, just do it and stop being a bitch.

The game of games. I really don't understand why people put down this amazing port of space harrier; either because they're bias towards nintendos craptacular "3d world runner" or they just suck a videogames in general so they would just naturally at an intense and difficult game like this. The graphics are amazing, and each level displays a substantial amount of colour.
The sounds are pretty minimal, but the music is simply memorable and incredibly catchy.
The controls are spot on and react great.
And it's very difficult to beat, so the replay value is through the roof. All in All, amazing game and easily a 10

Well this sucked ass, the first part of each level is horrible as you can never seem to hit anything coming at you, the second part going through the tunnel looked really cool through 3d but still pretty much sucked. And the bosses, well..., sucked.
This is supposed to be zaxxon, sega's smash isometric arcade hit, but no.
The Graphics are alright, The Music was meh, and the controls were a little akward. BTW, way to go trying to make a zaxxon game without a altitude bar. Stupid just Stupid

Well, after almost 5 years since reviewing this games, I actually purchased a hard copy for myself. Which isn't that easy since I live in Canada. But after playing it a second time, third time, fourt, and so on; I began to realize that this game is in fact not what I said it was 5 years ago, but really the exact opposite.
The Graphics are unreal for a sega master system, using actual digitized sprites. The music isn't anything you recognize with the exceptions of a few key notes, and the sound is pretty well done. In comparison with this game to the arcade, although it's missing kano, nobody really cares. It reall follows the key aspects of the game with all non-blood fatalities and blood fatalities intact. It actually follows the first game more than it's succesor does in realtion to the arcade original.
All in All, IT's great

My first golf game I ever played, and really and truly, it was pretty good, and I actually prefered it over Nintendo's "Golf". The graphics are neat and well kept, the sound is minimal with some pretty scratchy voice sythesis, but it really adds charm to the game. There is no music at all, except at the beginning of the title screen, but that just leaves you room to bump your own shit!!! The controls are great too, pretty much all one button. All in All, This is a great golf game, that has sort of a sentimental value to me

Not bad, but kinda boring. The graphics are very nice for an 8-bit version but too much had to be sacrificed. The music is pretty good, and the sounds are okay but the controls are not as responsive as you want them to be. But hell if you love sms and like afterburner, then you'll like this game alot. but it dosen't appeal that much to me

This was the first version I ever played of Altered Beast. And now that I have played them all, even the shitty commodore 64 and nes ports that's like playing with your own warm stool;the sms port really takes the cake with me. It might be a little choppy but not anything to complain about. the graphics are some of the best I have seen on a 8bit machine, and the music is legendary if you grew up with a sega master system. I like the controls too. All in All it's a good side-scrolling fighter with a unique twist, and this version is my favourite.

Space Harrier is one of those games that really shows people how potentially powerful an 8-bit system was, but incorporate 3d into the mix and you get a game that's still as awe inspiring today as it was 21 years ago. The Graphics are nice with really cool 3d backgrounds and new enemies to shoot yet i found the framerate was a little slow. The music sounded nice. Not as good as the first sms space harrier but pretty good, yet i found the sfx were a little cumbersome. the controls are tight and the verall gameplay is fast paced and highly entertaining.
This game is great and I think everyone on earth should experience this game

I just read over what I put here before and I just wished I put my foot in my mouth. After writing my previous review I went and played the game again and realized that the game is awesome. The graphics are great aswell as the sound and the first paerson mode when flying through the cave is so cool. They should of made a 3d version of thunderblade. Don't pay any attention to my last review

simplicity is this game's strenth. in so many shooters, the levels become so complex, the enemy hordes so numerous, that even a sega system would flicker! not so here. this is as much an exploring game as a shooter... may sound silly, since the world is 'round', and thus loops forever, but you spend so much time discovering the modes of your bot and how you affect enemies in them, and trying to find the way into the underground, that you cant help but explore this game! incredible what fun they can fit on a little 64K card!

In all honesty I love sega and stand by it's name. But this game looks like a hyped up graphically dominant yet shitty-er version of nes's hit game river city ransom, only with limited gameplay, much like other side scrollers the sms put out this is the exact same although it's one of the older games for sms. Play it if you wanna I dunno... Double Dragon for sms is way better and same with Streets of Rage

I enjoyed this game(contrary to others beliefs of the game)because it truely was a flight simulator similar to the one used in the training programs at the air force. It's simply a radar perspective and if given a chance can be played with for more than 10 minutes and maybe even enjoy it. A buddy of mine can play this game unbelievably well due to his work in the air force. make you think if video games are just tools of the government to help train kids to become killing machines... Meh Good Game

I played this very similar game on game gear and it siimply is a game you will play for about 30 minutes and then stop and let it collect dust. The graphics are nice and the music is repetitve and dull and u can barely hear the sfx at time so if you love the movie and wanna play a console version of it play it on the sega cd along with Mary Shelly's Frankestien they are both surprisingly good

I loved this game so much and have appreciated it for years as my second favourite rpg in the world. The visuals for this 8-bit gem were beautiful and the sound and gameplay are magnificent. But I hate and always have hated the final fantasy style action and much truly enjoy the Zelda or Golden Axe Warrior type of gameplay. It's not as Great as GAW, but hell it's pretty damn close. Great Game, You must play!

From:

Comments:
If you have already read my hang-on/safari hunt review than this ones is me just repeating myself about how important hang-on was to sega master system. This game came on card or built-into the system(on sega gold cateridge)and was the first game most of all sms fans have played. I loved it, I love the arcade and upon the arrivla of sms promising arcade realism, that came through aswell, although this game is nothing like the arcade version. I just have to say that nintendo could never have done alf the game that sms did and when they tried too they got pumbled (double dragon, rampage, altered beast, etc) so if you enjoy your master system and have this game just go to your room get out the old sms and play this game, and all your other games and remeber how great of a system it was and how it was so better than nintendo.
P.S. If anyone lives near Canada (ontario) and has an extra master system I need one so tell me.

In my vast journey through sms gamesover the years I stubbled apon this diamond in the rough. This game could have been are great arcade classic, but nope, sms was the only compatible console for this game. It's a great storyline and it's very enjoyable, the only major flaw is that when you die you begin at the beginning of the level again, but to be perfectly honest it didn't bother me one bit. SO if you ever crossed this game and had thought of it as a lame children's adventure, you will be mistaken and amazed of actually how great this game is.

My brothers and I used to play this all afternoon and only once did we ever beat Drago. But then my girlfriend comes up for the first time ever playing this game and absolutely dominates it. Well, the graphics are great, and the training sequences and fun, the sound and music are nice and this game is an all around enjoyment. so pick it up if you i can, I definately recomend it.
