Rastan

Comments: Everyone who says this is a Golden Axe ripoff is daft. First of all Rastan hit the arcades in 1987 and Golden Axe in 1989. Secondly the viewpoint is totally different. Rastan is a standard view sidescrolling platformer and Golden Axe is isometric view. That in itself makes the gameplay totally different even if some of the moves are similar. Using their flawed logic you could call almost any game with a barbarian and a sword a rip-off. But anyway, enough about those dipshits, this is one of my favorite Master System games and personally I like it a lot more than Golden Axe. It has blood splattering kills, fire-swords, water, goat heads, rods, erotic naked sluts AND flying erotic naked sluts. I mean, it doesn't implicitly say they are sluts but I think that is implied. Once you get the measured jumping down, the control is great too. Some have a low opinion of the music but I think it's a 10, totally classic. Yet another SMS tune I use as a ringtone. The graphics are also nice. The only thing I can even complain about is that sometimes you can run right through a powerup and not get it. But that doesn't happen too much. Some people here say it's too hard, some say too easy. I can beat it without continuing, it is still kinda hard but it's no Time Soldiers. A solid nine!

Comments: "From: Moe Syslak Comments: this game was better on NES" You forgot to mention that by better you mean that you prefer the dithered NES version with the same gameplay but with sack-wranglers at the end instead of cheerleaders. I'd call the SMS version a 10 in terms of the faithful arcade conversion but a 6 in terms of overall long-lasting fun... so an 8.

Comments: The people who posted that this game is gay or that it stinks obviously never read the instruction manual to learn how to play it. You're supposed to put the game in the Master System instead of SHOVING IT UP YOUR FUCKING ASS. I'd give it an 8 but the repetitive music knocks it down to a 7. The fastest platformer on the SMS?

After Burner

Comments: Wayne M is deaf, dumb and blind. Let's examine the SMS version in comparison to the version on his precious NES. To begin with the title screen is drastically simplified in the NES version. There are no clouds or scrolling pictures, just one boring three color title screen. Point for the SMS. On the intro to the SMS version the announcer says "Get ready!" and the plane shoots fire out of its turbines as it takes off. There are two different versions for the NES, one where smoke shoots from one turbine only and one where smoke shoots from both. Either way, they're both lame and neither one has the synthesized speech. Flames should be shooting out like they do in reality, not smoke. Another point for the SMS. In fact, in the NES version, fire never shoots from your turbines AT ALL! So much for the term After Burner. Point SMS. Once the action starts, you'll notice that they removed the vibrant colors for the Nintendo version and replaced them with drab, ugly ones. Point Sega. They also shrunk all the sprites and lowered the detail. Point for SMS. They also fucked up the crash animation. In the NES version that only has one plume of smoke when you take off, they re-use this for the crash. It is similar to the SMS version but of course with less detail. In the NES version with two plumes at takeoff, this time they re-use the same animation from when you blow up an enemy, only slightly larger. Not only that, you don't even crash into the ground anymore, now you blow up in midair. Total crap! Point SMS. As you can see the NES version is tripe in comparison to that of the SMS and loses out six to zero. But don't forget Wayne, you have Super Mario 1 - 3 and... uhh... River City Ransom is pretty cool... and then there was... I don't know, all I can remember is grey turds.

Comments: Kick ass game. It was GREAT on the C64 and GREAT on the SMS. The reason you don't like it is probably because you suck at it. And the screams ARE classic.

Comments: One of my all time favorites, an excellent game. Fast paced, hard but not too hard (except finding the scrolls). I would give it a ten but finding all the scrolls is insanity. Finally found out where they all were from a classic cheat book.

Comments: This game could've been so much better. The graphics and music are excellent but the gameplay is lacking and it is too short. The arcade version is short too so I guess that's not Sega's fault. If you want to beat the game easily, do like the manual says and jump over all of the grunts. Still worth playing and slightly above average due to the music and graphics.

Comments: The SMS version really couldn't have been any better. Great graphics and music, excellent conversion of the controls from mouse to joypad, TONS of levels (all of the levels were retained I think). I beat it without cheating (unless you count using brain drugs as cheating).

Great Golf

Comments: The SMS doesn't really have any stellar golf games but this is one of the best. Back then there was no grid to go over the green when putting. That technology really revolutionized golf games and is often still used today. Aside from that, a fun and widely available game. Get it if you like golf. Also of note the Japanese version of Great Golf is an almost completely different game.

Comments: This is one of the best games for the SMS. Fast action, insane graphics and spot on gameplay. I would give it a ten but the music isn't to my taste. I heard if you eat mushrooms and then play this game your body can die from exhilaration. The sequel is great too but the original is better.

Comments: This sequel is almost as good as the original. It's still worth getting because the levels are all new. I would recommend using a turbo pad as it makes the game even more fun. Use with LSD at your own risk.

Comments: Awesome shooter game with a funny Chinese theme. The music is goofy Chinese music too. Still the game is so good it manages to overcome the music. The only thing that sucks is that if you get killed you lose ALL of your special weaponry and speed upgrades. This is a real bitch on the later levels when crap is coming at you from all angles and you shoot slow and move even slower. Overall very kick ass though. Could've used a couple more levels but not TOO short.

Comments: Awesome game especially if you know how to play it right. I eventually beat this one without even using the player 2 continue trick.
