Comments: as simple as this game is it's still great. i played it just last year and it was still as good s when i played it 1st in 1992. this time however being older and wiser than then i was able to complete the game properly (getting all the dolls) that was a moment of closure in my life. I'm stillfilled with nostalgia when i see this game or hear the music. i doubt the sequels are actually related to this game in any way at all.

All the Wonderboy games are equally as good, and this is where it all started. 8-Bit games like this show that simple gameplay mechanics are the core of any classic game - Retro or new release. Comments: This game was the first platform game i EVER played, I was 4 years old. Before this I was hooked on Marksmen Shooting/Trap Shooting, and Safari Hunt. I had a Master System Gun. Then I tried this game, and it was so hard at first, now I am 20 and I think I have played it (genesis console, and roms) about 30 times, but only collected all the dolls a couple times, I always seem to miss one. But the 10th level is still embedded in my childhood memories. Damn! what a good game.

If you want variations of this game try playing the arcade version or SG1000 version (the console from Sega before Master System) The licence for this game was bought by Hudson Soft, they released a similar but crappy game with it for NES and SNES called Adventure Island.

The TRUTH about the whole Adventure Island/Wonder Boy thing though, is that they were both developed by a company called Westone, not Sega or Hudson. Westone developed WB for Sega and they released it, first in arcade. But when Westone wanted to release one on the NES, Sega wouldn't allow it since they owned the copyright to the Wonder Boy 'character', so they came up with "Adventure Island" and released that on the NES.

Comments: I'm sure everyone is aware of how this game was released on the NES as Adventure Island. The one thing that AI has over WB is the music. It actually had pleasant music that changed with every stage, instead of the same lame song level after level. It's enough to drive you crazy! Other than that this is a fine game, although in a different flavor than the two WB sequels. The character sprite in this game is much better than AI. Hudson Soft made him look stupid.
