Hang On & Safari Hunt

2005-01-25
From: ih8uplzdie
Comments: Not a bad combo built into the original Master System console. Hang On is the motorcycle racing game based on the arcade game of the same name. The Master System version is okay for an 8-bit system and real fun game to kill time. Safari Hunt is a Duck Hunt clone made for the console to encourage people to buy the light gun. It is extremly repetitive and easy but does alternate levels more so than the Nintendo System's counterpart. In the end though, if this game wasn't built into the console it would have been forgotten about. Note: Safari Hunt has 69 levels and the end game simply says "Good Hunting. Game Over" in the PAL version.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Comments: Sonic's adaptation to the Master System was far from perfect. A much slower and jittery game is offered here (Almost a poor man's Sonic.), but I guess it's ironic that Alex Kidd's adaptation to the Mega Drive was equally as flawed.

Marble Madness

Comments: The music and design are just right in this adaptation of the classic arcade game. However, all adaptations of Marble Madness have always had their gameplay faulted by the lack of the trackball control which is needed if you seriously want to finish the game.

Comments: The crossover between two of Sega's greatest titles melds perfectly as a classic Sega game in its own right. Be sure to not skip the intro, the expression on Alex Kidd's face is worth it alone.

Kings Quest

Comments: Let's face it, King's Quest was never really a "great" game. It was far too easy to die for no reason, get stuck and the story is lacking. What people liked was the fantasy world and this conversion of the game improves on many of the aspects of the original game or at least covers up the flaws more efficiently. The pre-selected verbs in the Master System's interface make the game much easier and the updated graphics are welcome. Much nicer looking then the VGA remake of the game for the PC.

Comments: This game represents Master System in its prime. So many elements of gaming are fused together such as the platformer, rpg, business management and even a driving sim; resulting in one of the greatest games that was ever made. Why hell, the title screen even plays the film's theme with a bouncing ball!

Comments: Ah, pure destruction. The best conversion of the arcade game that has you tearing up cities such as L.A. and San Francisco. Kind of repetitive though, so it's a nice time killer.

Comments: There's a reason why this game was built into the Master System II. Cool and unforgiving platformer from the hey days of retro gaming. A classic.

Comments: The definitive version of Columns. Better design and music even if it is a Tetris clone. Only really good to kill time.
